The Minster Strays

Founded in 2003, the team is based in the Howardian Hills between York and Pickering. We have members of both sexes and all ages, but with a common love of England's folk dance tradition.

Our repertoire includes elegant dances from the Cotswolds with complex sequences of galleys and capers, together with wild, raucous frolics from the Welsh borders. The varied traditions are reflected in our kit; smart waistcoats for the Cotswold, multicoloured tattered jackets for the Border.

The Minster Strays

We are members of the Morris Federation.

Want to join us? We meet on Monday nights in Thornton-le-Clay - just off the A64 to the north of York. This year's practice season starts on Monday 1 September; the September practice sessions are aimed particularly at beginners. Contact any of our officers to find out more!

The team is pleased to support The Big National Ceilidh on Saturday 18 October, proceeds from which will go to the charity WaterAid. Your local ceilidh is at Scarborough, with fantastic band Peeping Tom and caller Pete Rees. For tickets contact Judi Pickering on 01723 507920.
