Welcome to the Strays, from Gez!

This is my high-tech “Welcome to New Members page” in case I've forgotten to tell you anything important face-to-face. If you think I've missed something, let me know to improve the service!

contact details

I will send you the current Minster Strays contact list separately. I’d appreciate your contact numbers and address (assuming you are willing to provide them) and confirmation that you are happy for me to add these to the contact list. This is only circulated within the Minster Strays.

website

Under our Members Pages you will find a link to our constitution. This sets out our aims, the roles of our officers, the payment of subscriptions and other items to do with the running of the side. I’d be grateful if you could peruse this.

We’d welcome and support you to stand for any of the officer positions at the AGM this year. New personalities and ideas on the committee should keep us invigorated!

Under our Galleries, I've recorded many of the main events in our history. If, for any reason, you don't want your photo on our website, please let me know and I'll respect your privacy.

events

On the Events page there is a calendar of events we are booked to perform at, together with links to useful related information, such as event websites.

Secondly, there is the all-important EVENTS SIGN-UP SHEET. This is on a hidden page to which I'll send you a separate link. I would recommend setting up a desktop shortcut to this, to save hunting for it! It confirms who has signed up for what, together with information such as final practice dates etc. You can email me, or tell me at practice, if you’d like to be put down for an event.

Potential events are also shown here (in turquoise). If you would like to champion any of these, or propose an event, please let me know, or mention it at bagtime.

at practice

In terms of practice, please let Juliette our Foreman know if you are unable to attend – she puts a lot of effort into planning practice, especially around new members and it really helps her to know if someone will not be there. For the performance, you need to let our Squire Wendy know on the day if there is a problem. Up to that time, please keep me informed if your circumstances change for some reason.

paying for it all

We do need to charge for membership of the Strays. The money goes towards kit, subsidising events, petrol money for distant events and other running costs. We decide how much the subs are each year at the AGM. In 2019 we asked for £50 per person. Not bad for 30+ two hour practices over the year - it works out at around £1.50 per session. You get three free taster sessions to decide whether to join us formally, then you're in. If you are really struggling for cash, please approach one of the Officers. We'd rather have your company than lose you for the sake of a few pounds.

That should be about it! Happy Dancing and it’s great to have you in the side.
